 Details When ace high school detective Kudou Shinichi is fed a mysterious substance by a pair of nefarious men in black--poof! He is physically tranformed into a first grader. Until he can find a cure for his miniature malady, he takes on the pseudonym Conan Edogawa and continues to solve all the cases that come his way. By Gosho Aoyama (Detective Conan) Characters Main Characters Shinichi Kudo (Jimmy Kudo) Voiced by: Kappei Yamaguchi (Japanese), Jerry Jewell (English) in teenage form. Voiced by: Minami Takayama (Japanese), Alison Viktorin (English) in child form. * Portrayed by Shun Oguri in Teenage form (Detective Conan Live Action). * Portrayed by Fujisaki Nao in child form. A high school detective / savant who was inadvertently shrunk back to his childhood body after being given an experimental poison when knocked out, the drug was supposed to kill him, by a criminal organization. He now goes under the alias Conan Edogawa (Edogawa Konan) and has to pretend to be a little kid in order to protect his identity and the people around him from the organization. He is a popular detective and has a crush on his childhood friend, Rachel Moore (Ran Mouri). He is also a great soccer player, and was sometimes a bit full of himself before he became "Conan". Yusaku Kudo (Booker Kudo) Voiced by: Hideyuki Tanaka (Japanese), Randy Tallman (English) Shinichi / Jimmy's father, who is a famous author of detective stories, and he created the popular character, "Knight Baron." He is extremely intelligent, and often had helped the police many times in the past solve cases that no one else could solve. His deduction skills are superior to Shinichi's / Jimmy's. Yukiko Kudo (Vivian Kudo) Voiced by: Sumi Shimamoto (Japanese), Laurie Steele (English) Shinichi / Jimmy's mother, a former actress who gave up her career at age 20 to marry Yusaku / Booker against the will of her family. She had been a rival of Eri Kisaki/Eva Kadan (Ran/Rachel's mother) in her high school years, and tied with Eri at the last Miss Teitan beauty contest that was held at their school. It is later revealed that due to Kogoro's poor English comprehension, he had failed to submit his vote to break the tie. Because of her reputation as the wife of a famous mystery author and for involving herself in some criminal cases which she occasionally helps to solve, she has been given the nickname, "The Knight Baroness" after the main character that her husband created for his mystery novels. Other Characters Sonoko Suzuki (Serena Sebastian) Voiced by: Naoko Matsui (Japanese), Laura Bailey (voice actress) (English) Ran's best friend. Sonoko is very obsessed with guys, but later she develops a somewhat genuine liking towards Makoto Kyougoku (Kyogoku Makoto), a promising martial artist. Sonoko has a sister (named Ayako Suzuki / Ayako Sebastian (manga) or Angie Sebastian (anime)). She thinks Jimmy is a loser and is always trying to set Rachel up on dates with new guys. She admits later that she wants Kaitou Kid and Makoto to become candidates to be her boyfriend and fight each other for her affections. Every Kaitou Kid episode, she screams "Kid-sama take me!" although she already has a boyfriend. Hiroshi Agasa (Dr. Herschel Agasa) Voiced by: Kenichi Ogata (Japanese), Bill Flynn (English) * Acted by Tayama Rosei An absent-minded professor who invents several devices to help out Jimmy. His given name is "Hiroshi" in the English manga and "Herschel" in the English anime. He serves as one of the few roles in the story who learns about Conan's true identity and helps the little detective in cases. Heiji Hattori (Harley Hartwell) Voiced by: Ryo Horikawa (Japanese), Kevin M. Connolly (English) Jimmy's rival detective from Osaka and his father is the chief of the Osaka police department. He later becomes best friends with Jimmy. He has a relationship with martial artist Kazuha Toyama, his childhood friend and would-be love interest, and this is pretty similar in the case of Jimmy and Rachel. He is also one of the few people who know that Conan is really Jimmy. He persistantly builds friendship with Conan / Jimmy because they share the same goals of becoming greatest detectives and Jimmy is the only person he finds in his age group that can rival his deduction skills. Harley is also a master Kendo fighter. Unlike Jimmy, his favorite author is Ellery Queen rather than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who wrote Sherlock Holmes. Shizuka Hattori Heiji's mother, wife of Hattori Heizo. She appeared in manga volume 28 to test Kogoro's skills, noting how her son always seemed to come out second best in encounters with Kogoro. She is an expert in kendo. Her complexion is so fair that Ran could hardly believe she is Heiji's mother. Kazuha Toyama (Katie Thompson) Voiced by: Yuko Miyamura Harley's childhood friend and a daughter of a commissioner who is positioned high in the Osaka police department. Her relationship with Harley closely mirrors Rachel's with Jimmy; she is too shy to admit that they feel more than 'friendship' for their respective partner. She is skilled in Aikido. This is similar to Rachel who is skilled in karate. Also both of them are scared of ghosts because "karate and aikido won't work on them." Harely and Kazuha's fathers are close friends, which would explain how they've had close relationship since childhood. Saguru Hakuba Voiced by: Akira Ishida A detective based outside Japan, he is an originally a character from Kaito Kid series. Tomoaki Araide Voiced by: Hideyuki Hori A young doctor and the son of Richard's physician. He was once the basketball coach on Rachel's school and, upon their first encounter, thought to be a rival for Jimmy / Conan's affections for Rachel. While Tomoaki had practised along with his father, he intended to move to Aomori for a job at a local clinic, along with his grandmother Mitsu Araide and his household helper Hikaru Yasumoto, especially after his father had been murdered by his stepmother Yoko for driving his actual mother (and Yoko's friend), Chiaki, into alcoholism and eventual death. However, he has reappeared in Conan's vicinity on several occasions - seemingly at least; his identity was used by Vermouth in order to track down Ai aka Sherry. He was almost murdered by her to facilitate the cover, but the FBI had temporarily moved him to safety in America. After Vermouth's disguise was exposed, he returned (as of volume #44) to Teitan High School and continues to practice in the area. Hikaru Yasumoto Voiced by: Akiko Hiramatsu She is the young household keeper to Dr. Tomoaki Araide. She tends to be overly nervous about her chores, mostly because of the possibility that she may have a crush on her young employer that once was her doctor and therefore is too anxious about having to leave him. Makoto Kyogoku Voiced by: Nobuyuki Hiyama Sonoko's boyfriend, and the karate champion of Haido High School. He first appears in episode 153, and is a suspect during a case where Sonoko is a target for a killer. He saves Sonoko from the real killer, however, and hints that he is actually attracted to her. In his own way, he can be considered a valuable ally because of his Karate skills. Because of his participation in several tournaments inland and overseas, and a well-hidden shyness towards Sonoko, they do not get to see each other often. Although he is regarded by Conan as a brainless fighting champion, he saves Sonoko many times when she becomes involved in dangerous cases by hanging around with Rachel and Conan, by stumbling through the moronic clues left by Sonoko, which was originally made to find her and have one of her romantic fantasies come true. Sumiko Kobayashi Voiced by: Yuko Kato She is (as of Vol.16) the Detective Boys' class teacher. Actually a kind person, in her initial period at Teitan Elementary she was known as "the witch" due to her harsh behaviour to her students, which was in fact prompted by previous bad experience and her innate stage fright. With the help of Conan and his little friends she has warmed considerably, and after having seen the Detective Boys in action she has even appointed herself as their manager. Incidentally, Ms. Kobayashi is a huge fan of detective story writer Rampo Edogawa - the author whose surname Shinichi had adopted for his alias. As yet, she has not guessed at that connection between the two. Yoko Okino Voiced by: Miki Nagasawa (Japanese), Elise Baughman (English) A young pop star idol who is a regular focus of worship by Richard Moore. She has a number of cameos throughout the series, mostly as a prominent guest at some social gatherings which turn into criminal cases. Azusa Enomoto Voiced by: Mikiko Enomoto A young waitress at the Poirot Cafe, which Kogoro occasionally visits for a snack. She seems to have a knack to bring some cases Kogoro's - and therefore Conan's - way. Hideo Akagi / Harrison Acres and Naoki Uemura / Nicholas Underwood Two Japanese soccer stars, and the dream team of the Tokyo Spirits. Originally they were rivals, which culminated into Naoki kidnapping Hideo's kid brother Mamoru Akagi / Matthias Acres, but with Conan and Ran's help the matter was settled quietly. Ever since they have been the best of friends, and they are particular favorites of the Detective Boys. Kaitou Kid (Phantom Thief Kid) Voiced by: Kappei Yamaguchi (Japanese), Jerry Jewell (English) A thief that looks a lot like Jimmy, who also has a best friend named Aoko Nakamori, who looks a lot like Rachel. Despite the fact that Jimmy / Conan does not care much about investigating thefts, Kid can be considered one of his arch nemesises, as he is the one criminal (beside some members of the BO) that he can't seem to catch. Curiously, Kaitou discovers Conan's true identity, but keeps his secret, and sometimes Jimmy can even count on Kid's help to solve some of his cases. His codename in the police department is 'International Criminal 1412'. Kaitou Kid appears in his own manga series, Magic Kaito as well. The original Kaitou Kid (8 years prior to the start of the story) focused on mostly stealing antiques and high-valued art. However, he was murdered, and his son takes over for him by continuing in his guise, stealing mostly jewels with strange histories in order to find his father's killers and lure them out. He is a noble thief at heart. He and Conan do not realize that the bad guys they are after are part of the same organization. Read manga |
