Adventure Boys

Read manga

The only common feature running through these stories is a grown-up protagonist somehow coming face-to-face with his childhood past, in a testament to the loss of youth, the disillusionment of growing old, and nostalgia for better times. In the Adachi pantheon, this is a rare diametric view of his eternal theme of `youth,` in this case youth as seen through the lens of the past. It`s a powerful statement from Adachi that might even be an acknowledgment of his steadily-creeping age. What is impressive about these stories is not the plots or characters themselves, but the absolutely perfect way he tells them, another facet of experience that comes with age. Most of the stories may require multiple readings to fully appreciate the airtightness of the plot and visual motifs.

By Adachi Mitsuru (Adventure Boys)

The book contains of 7 adventure stories by Adachi Mitsuru sensei. For those who like “Touch”, this is another manga you have to read.

1st story tells about Masahiko and his regret of letting a swindler swindled the woman he loves. If only he can turns back time, he would warn her and create more intimate relationship between them.

2nd story is about 3 childhood friends who want to erase their past for losing their friend. They lost in their guilty feeling.

3rd story is about bravery. Kamisato always tell himself that adults don’t fight. But, sometimes we have to struggle for the thing we value the most. It takes time for him to understand that.

4th story talks about Dad’s heir. He always thinks that he’s bad because his father was bad too. Now, he expects more from his son, while he actually underestimate his ability.

5th story. Two men abduct a child. They think her mother would give them all the money they want. But, the mother is actually unable to pay it without her ex-husband support. On the other hand, she tries not to start deed to him. Later, the kidnapper found out that the mother is their school mate. They finally return the money.

The 6th story. Renji took the guardian God from his house. After that, bad things happen. If only he let it as it be….

7th story is quite romantic. Miyade wanted to be a mangaka. He used to go a coffee shop in front of the station to draw. He was also dumped at that place by his first girl friend. He couldn’t say anything, but run out and left his sketch book. 10 years after that, the coffee shop’s owner still keep the book.

Past is the ingredient of the present. You might want to deny it, but it will keep haunting you. That’s the main idea of this tankubon. I have never read any work by Adachi Mitsuru sensei, but I think this is magnificent. You should read it!
